Anathema by Megg Jensen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Disclosure: I got this book as an ARC from Netgalley.
As a slave Reychel does as she is told and she is told to do dishes and never go near the windows. The outside world has nothing for her according to her master and she will not go against his will. With her fifteenth birthday she is to be branded on the back of her scalp as a symbol of his ownership. Only the fates have intervened sending her someone to save her from her fate. That's only the beginning of her story.
This story is a slow build, once you finally get into it. I like the character Reychel, she seems very wholesome and naive despite living as a slave. I am also a fan of the whole support system of characters that build around her. They seem to have enough depth to give them flesh but not so much that you think the story is really about them. I would definitely recommend this book for readers of all ages.
