Disclosure: I received the Cosco Scenera NEXT Car seat free in order to conduct the review as well as a promotional item, however all my opinion are my own.
When it comes to car seats I can attest that I have handled quite a few, as a matter of fact between my two kids, 2 nieces and 1 nephew, I have physically been in contact with at least 10. These car seats have been of various brands and sizes, both rear facing and convertible, so I know quite a bit about car seats. I also have experienced the extreme cost that can be car seats, with many of them over a hundred dollars each. As someone on a budget these high priced car seats can really break the bank when you are trying to both keep your child safe and fed. So when given the opportunity to try out and review a mid-range cost convertible car seat I jumped on it.
Cosco offers the new Scenera NEXT Car Seat at Walmart or on Walmart.com for as low as 46$. This is such a reasonable price it instantly makes you wonder why is it so cheap? Honestly, I don't know why they don't charge more, but what I can guess is that they are working hard to keep them affordable for families like mine that needs to budget. Overall I would say that the one I received to review is worth far more than the retail cost, and that to me is a major plus.
Disclosure: I received five varieties of Cascade Ice to try in order to give my honest opinion and share it with you my readers, no other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
When it comes to beverages I rarely venture far outside of basic cola flavored products and water. I am not much of a juice or "fruity" flavor drinker as typically they aren't enjoyable to me. However, I was given 5 different flavored Cascade Ice Sparkling beverages to try. Rather than try them all myself I took them to the bar I work at and got a consensus vote from several of my friends. And here is what we thought:
Pomegranate Berry: Overall the flavor was well liked, the light bubbles tickled the tongue and it didn't leave a zero calorie after taste that many of the others do. Since we were at a bar and the people over at Cascade Ice included a nice cocktail idea we tried out the Love Potion Pizzazz. The Love Potion Pizzazz is an alcoholic cocktail creation that is very similar to a pomegranate martini and overall was very tasty, as well as low calorie.
Here's the recipe:
Black Raspberry: Out of the flavors sent this one was the least liked, although it did taste fine it didn't have the pop the other flavors did. That being said, it was light and refreshing, so if you are looking for a lighter flavor combination this could definitely be a good choice. For the cocktail idea with this one the Cascade Ice team recommended the Passion Pucker-Up cocktail. I would equate this one with almost a Black Raspberry Margarita. We didn't have fresh raspberry to recreate this perfectly so it was made with Raspberry puree for the test and I have to say it was okay, but I am not a huge tequila fan. If I were to recreate I would make it more into a Daquiri by substituting rum.
Here's the recipe:
Pour everything into the mixer and blend to desired consistency. For tequila drinkers this could be a great lower calorie margarita option, here is the beautiful picture provide by Cascade Ice.
Pink Grapefruit: This one has a very distinct flavor of grapefruit and it's definitely strong. I am a fan of grapefruit overall so this is definitely in my wheel house, however there was a bit of a artificial sweetener twinge at the end of each drink. If you are a diet soda drinker, you will already be accustomed to the sweetener so I doubt you will notice. I however did, but it wasn't enough to bother me. Now the cocktail created for this drink the Blushing Sparkler is very light and refreshing.
Here's the recipe:
Serve over Ice with Lemon garnishes. I could definitely see this as an extremely light cocktail for a warm day.
Orange Mango: This one was really good, sweet but not too sweet. It actually made me want to drink it, which since it's a sparkling water with zero calories that gives me a great option that doesn't add unwanted calories to my diet. My calorie tracker app will appreciate it as will my backside.
Raspberry Lemonade: I liked this one as well, it was similar to any other raspberry lemonade I have tasted recently and the added no calorie factor made it taste all the sweeter. I can definitely see substituting a cola for this any day of the week.
Overall I would say that I have a great impression of Cascade Ice Sparkling Waters from the small sampling of the 31 flavors they offer. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a light refreshing low calorie option.
I can find Cascade Ice Sparkling Waters at my local Winco, Walmart, Safeway and Raleys. If you want to find out more about Cascade Ice or check out how they shake it up follow them on Facebook.
Disclosure: I received the fastfox for free for review, no other compensation was received.
When it comes to fitness the latest craze is the fitness band, be it the Fitbit, Jawbone, iSport or now the FastFox. The Fastfox is the one I will be reviewing today and thus far I have to say it has quite a few things going for it. Overall it has similar attributes to the before mentioned brand of fitness band as it logs the number of steps taken and monitors sleep. When you add in the additional information of your weight , height and age the app will happily calculate the number of calories you have burned throughout your daily steps as well as monitor your sleep patterns. The Fastfox overall is basic in the app department although it gives the same information as the other trackers I find that it’s not as flashy in the app department. That being said it’s also very easy to get the information you seek out, without having to fish through all the fluff. My main gripe in the sleep department as it pretty much gives two options light sleep or deep sleep, versus some of the others that give you your REM cycles and such, but in all reality I doubt many people care about the difference.
One key difference between those and the Fastfox is the ability for it to let you know when you have a text message or phone call. For those of us who pretty much hate carrying our phone on us at all times this is ideal. You can leave your phone at your desk while running around the lab for example. Yeah that example may not be perfect for everyone, but hey I’m a nerdy scientist that is where I am most of the time. Or you can leave your phone in your purse while at the gym. You may not be able to see the actual message, but when something is urgent you and I both know your phone gets repeat hits and your wrist will then vibrate multiple times, letting you know quit the treadmill and head back to grab your phone. In the prototype version I have been rocking for the last couple of weeks I can attest it seems to be pretty accurate on the total number of steps as well as pretty easy to forget it’s there.
I currently am sporting two fitness trackers, the one I was gifted for Christmas and the Fastfox I am reviewing and my thus far take home is that the Fastfox is far more comfortable. I like that it’s so light I forget it’s there especially when I am sleeping. The other one I am currently using, is far bulkier and I find it gets in the way and sort of irritates me while I sleep. That being said, if I were to have a trial run and have to pick which one I’d personally prefer I’d go with the Fastfox as of right now. In the future I hope to try out both the Jawbone and Fitbit to see whether or not the Fastfox is still may favorite, but until that day I am a happy Fastfox early adopter.
