Attack the Geek by Michael R. Underwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Disclosure: I got this book for free from Netgalley to review.
A seemingly normal Saturday at Grognard's Grog, turns into an epic adventure and battle for Ree Reyes the barista/first hand to the owner. Channeling the inner Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ree Reyes and cohorts with the help of a little Geekomancy take on all that they face with flare and a whole lot of action.
Attack of the Geek reminded me of an episode of one of my beloved Sci-fi shows, from the minimal backstory to the dun dun dun to be continued kind of ending, it left me wanting more. Any self proclaimed fanboy/girl would be enthralled with all the "geek" reference as well as the whole world at which they live. The idea that you could channel the powers from the things you watch, read, play or dress up as is pretty much a dream for most cos-players. This book had so mnay references that I had to get my google on, but for the more advanced Geeks it will tickle you pink! I recommend this book for anyone who likes to read series, because once you start I doubt you will want the book to end. Plus, it feels like it's set up for the next one or for Joss Wheaton to come and make it to a series...No seriously he should I would even watch it live.
