I was recently given the opportunity to review COWS! by Martin Rothery, and I have to say I like the theme. The premise of the book is that Cows are actually the supreme intelligent being on the planet only, humans don't realize it. Being so smart they have bidded their time filling us full of their dairy products in order to have it saturate our minds enough to be able to control us entirely. The storyline follows Jimmy Tatley a slightly dim witted fourteen year old boy whom happens to be lactose intollerant. His adversion to all things dairy has worked to his advantage as unlike a vast majority of is dairy town he isn't under the control of the cows. With help from his faithful sheepdog Flossy and various other unlikely allies, Jimmy must save his town from the cows.
From the moment I started reading this book I could hear Dr. Demento's "Cows with Guns" running through my head, I think it was the idea of cows having human like characteristics that did it, but it was my gut reaction. The story was for me a slow read, the main character of Jimmy didn't pull me in as I had hoped and I didn't get the intense pull that many other reads I have had lately, but it was a different genre. This book was very thought out down to the acronyms used for the cow names. I feel like the author was very thorough and it is a very well written book, with an interesting theme.
If you are a fan of unique ideas, with comic elements and enjoy descriptive writing I would recommend this book. Although for me it wasn't a must re-read, I feel like for those who like the book it will become one of their favorites. Check it out on Facebook at Cows Attack or at Fishcake Publications.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
