Ever Shade by Alexia Purdy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Disclosure: I received this book in order to give my honest opinion from Netgalley, all opinions are 100% my own.
Shade was an ordinary teen, well except for the fact that she hears voices, but who's splitting hairs? On her way home from school, that all changes when she gives into the voices and ends up meeting Jack. Jack isn't human, he is a Teelen Faery Warrior that takes the reluctant Shade back to Faerie with him. Shade learns pretty quickly that she isn't quite as ordinary and definitely not losing her mind when the world of Faerie reveals she is actually more than she seems and destine to be very important to the people of faerie.
Alexia Purdy created her own Narnia in the world of Faerie and the Dark Faerie Tale Series, with characters of equal on par with creative magic to those of the classic fantasy novels and some of my childhood classics. As we travel Faerie with the reluctant heroine Shade we go through all the classic stages. Awareness of something being different about her, introduction into the new world, acceptance of the unknown and epic quest. I love Shade, her character is of solid character and strong sense of self despite all that is thrown at her. Her individual strength, although not always physical builds throughout the story and really creates a strong foundation for the subsequent books in the series. I would definitely equate this with a young adult female centric Lord of the Rings. I started this book in the late afternoon and continued until it's completion. This series and this book is something I would lose sleep over it's just that good.
