Hideaway Cove by Anna Sullivan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Disclosure: I received this book as a free ARC from Netgalley.
Single Mom Jessi Randal is perfectly fine doing things on her own. Years after the father of her son left her pregnant and alone, Jessi has learned how to navigate the treacherous waters of the small islands gossips. The last things she needs is to give them another thing to judge her for, so when the sexy stranger Holden Abbot makes his affections known she is more than a little hesitant to take him up on them. Holden Abbott is on the island searching for the missing heir to the Stanhope family as well as nursing a broken heart. He has also made it his mission to have Jessi, only he has a secret he isn't ready to trust her with and it could very well undo all his efforts.
At 90,000 words this story has ample time to build the character storyline while weaving throughout the history of the Windfall Island and it's inhabitants. This story focus' mainly on the character of Jessi and her interaction with Holden. Their romance is a slow burn that builds, and faces various bumps along the way. I really enjoy that Anna Sulivan has incorporated a lot of the emotions at which a single mom feels about taking on a new relationship. The hesitation as well as stigma about dating are on the forefront, but they don't drag the romance aspect down. The mystery aspect adds a bit of suspense adding to the thrill of the book. I give this book a 3 out of 5.
