Crystal was unable to attend so the review is being conducted by Troy, Luke (3), Lily(5) and Ariana (7)
I am always looking for something fun to do with the kids that they can really enjoy. It's hard though since Luke & Lily have slightly different definitions of what is fun. We go to the typical places like Chuckee Cheese, the Zoo, Arcades, all sorts of other things, but by and far they enjoy the live shows the best. So when given the opportunity to attend the Monster Jam at Sleep Train Arena tonight, I was excited. I went into planning mode a week in advance of the show. First things first, I ordered some kids ear protection as from past experiences with Monster trucks they tend to be loud. Next we started the hype up with the kids, surprisingly Lily was just excited as Luke. We knew Luke would be excited, he has two apps for playing with Monster Trucks on his tablet as well as several dozen toy Monster trucks including Grave Digger it so happens, so his excitement was a gimme. Lily's reaction however was the surprise, she remember from the last time we went to see Monster Jam about a lady flying out of cannon and reminded me that she in fact plans on doing that for her job when she grows up. Heaven help us that doesn't come true, her mom will be in an early grave from a heart attack if that does occur. Back to the review at hand how did this show measure up?
Well one thing I can tell you for certain is they pack a whole lot of excitement into the show. From the beginning the show started off with quad wars and side by side races. They also did the National Anthem and had the honor guard present the flags. That is something we didn't remember from last year and really stood out as a great moment. The announcer got the crowd involved and hyped up the small races in a way that put a twinkle in the kids eyes. I love to see when they are really enjoying themselves and they were.
When it was time for the main events the Monster trucks were spectacular. This years fan favorite Zombie quickly became our family favorite, although that doesn't discount how much we enjoy the other trucks. The Monster trucks had 4 different events: Drag Race, Obstacle course, Freestyle and Big Jump. The champion for the night was none other than the Gravedigger and it was spectacular. He pulled off a massive reverse jump that literally blew my mind. The roar of the crowd around us was nearly deafening when it was completed. It was overall an exceedingly impressive show with these giant 12 foot tall beasts flying through the air. Each moment no matter what was happening the kids were glued to the arena floor. It was definitely a fun family friendly event and I can not wait to see it again next time it comes into town!
If you are looking to take your kids there is one more show tomorrow 1/25 at 2pm in Sacramento! Don't miss it!
