Hot Dots Let's Master Reading and Math Sets by Educational Insights Review
Lily has been learning to read at preschool/daycare for a few months now and it seems to have started to stick, that being said when given the opportunity to try out Hot Dots Let’s Master Reading & Math Sets we were excited. I requested the Kindergarden sets as Lily has been working a while and we found that she is almost at the comprehension level of a kindergarden aged child. Yay Lily! That being said I think the Kindergarden sets, are actually right in line with the curriculum for the final half a year of pre-K or beginning of Kindergarden. So, if you are looking for a great tool to help in the education of your children these are a great option. At least that is my perspective from the homework my niece brought home from her kindergarden class and what Lily’s homework from “Mrs. Judy’s”. I am very happy that we did go with the Kindergarden sets as they provide enough of a challenge to be interesting, but not so difficult that they are demotivating.
The Hot Dots sets come with a blue dog shaped pen that vibrates and cheers when you get an answer correct and eyes turn red and it says sorry. Using the booklets included and answering by placing the pen tip to the black dots the kids can practice what they are learning at school. In the Hot Dots Master Reading set, the child starts out by having a refresher course in the captial and lowercase letters making sure that they can associate them correctly. Once they complete that section they move into the word/picture association. This was the hardest for Lily, but it was definitely an activity that we can go through together until she gets a better grasp. I like the way the dog pen gives both positive reinforcement as well as indicates a negative wrong answer. I think it is good that it gives kids something to look forward to when they are learning. Sort of like getting a gold star for each right answer, and the freedom to practice on their own.
In the Math Set, the child starts out by going over their numbers and then they begin with addition and subtraction. Math is something lily is struggling with, but like the set above the positive reinforcement really did wonders, she wanted the dog to be happy. So she tried a bit harder I think, or rather took her time more to see if she could deceifer it on her own. I am really excited that these new tools are going to aid in her studying outside of school even though she didn’t realize she was studying.
