Disclosure: I received this book in order to give my honest opinion.
Tiffany Papageorge created a is a beautiful story called My Yellow Balloon that is designed to help with grief. The thing that struck me about this book is the beautiful colors. I was awed by the illustrations. I felt like this story was along the lines of Pixar's UP giving you a glimpse into a subject that is hard to comprehend and breaking it down so that you can feel the emotions and learn to deal with them. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a child who is dealing with a loss that they don't quite understand.
This book is available on Amazon right now.

When it comes to Christmas gifts for new parents nothing is more important than the gift of sleep. My sister had a baby five months ago and found quickly that my nephew likes to sleep sitting up. Which actually is very common. That is why many babies sleep in their car seat better than any other seat. However, most parents don't want to lug that heavy car seat around, plus they aren't as comfy as they aren't designed for babies to sleep in. The Dex DayDreamer however has the benefits of being angled the same as the car seat but soft like a blanket. No rough texture or uncomfortable seating for your little bundle of joy.
In the pictures above you can see my five month old nephew he is a big boy, he is the average size of a 9 month old so this gift will last a new parent at least from the point of birth until 9 months. With the lap belt it prevents little ones from wiggling out and soft cover from rubbing on their legs.
The size is actually about the size of the average carseat only the material is far softer and surprisingly light. I recommend this for new parents as it really does give a safe nap location. Overall I would have to say that on the level of must haves this is definitely a luxury item, but could easily become one of your must haves if your baby prefers car seat sleeping.
Disclosure: I received these books free in order to consider them for my gift guide.
Did you know that there are statistics that say that up to 20% of all children say that have been bullied. I have a total of 4 nieces and nephews and two children so that is saying at least one of them will likely be bullied. Having experienced minor bullying in my own youth I can attest that it isn't a pleasant thing and can really hurt your feelings leaving a lasting effect. That being said it isn't easy to explain to my children what really constitutes bullying. So any additional tool in teaching kids against being a bully or being bullied is gold.
I was given two of The Principle Gang series by Dr. Dan & Bli Dugi in order to evaluate the for the quality of books as well as the interest they sparked in my children. I will first attest to my personal opinion of the two books overall they are quite beautiful with vibrant colors in both the pictures as well as the fonts used. As a reader they really catch the eye giving a feast for those more visual learners. With Luke and Lily being under 6 it's important that they are visually stimulated. The overall stories are both cute and informative.
Out of the two we were given the opportunity to read The Principle Gang book 1 Don't Judge a Lizard by his Scales is our family favorite. That doesn't mean however we aren't fans of book two Wizard Lizard Rides the Subway, we just sort of relate more to the first one being that there is no subway anywhere we live. Overall I would recommend these as great gifts for any child that you may fear may be bullied or a bully. Or for any child heading into school.

When looking for gifts for my mother-in-law I always look for unique interesting gifts as that is her style. She has a free form sort of style and loves things that have a lot of character, so when given the opportunity to include an item from the World Vision Gift Catalog in my Holiday I was very excited. The World Vision Gift Catalog for 2014 features several very beautiful items ranging from beautiful hand-carved spoons as I am going to be reviewing below to hand-crafted necklaces and purses. These items are all very beautiful and proceeds go to help those in need. With the Holiday season being more and more materialistic each year it is nice to be able to give back while still showering your family with beautiful gifts.
The hand-carved serving spoon set I received to review is the most beautiful set of spoons I have ever seen. These serving spoons are hand-carved out of olivewood and have a beautiful swirl pattern that is unique for each set. They arrive in a hand sewn bag from local women of Kenya, the fabric is an African fabric with a vibrant pattern. Just looking at the quality of the work I have to say it's outstanding. I was so impressed by the swirl handle. Having taken several years of wood working and sculpture I can say that the people who carve them are true artists.
My favorite part of these Serving spoons however is the fact that the proceeds go to help the Orphans of the Kamba tribe in Kenya. My heart breaks thinking about a child without a family so any way that I can help them even a little gives me a smile and I know my mother-in-law will appreciate that as much as I would.
I would highly recommend these spoons as a gift for someone in your life who's heart is as big as their smile. They could also be a great gift for yourself!
I almost forgot to mention your purchase will also be tax deductable up to the fair market value price which is included as information of the purchase!

When it comes to label makers I honestly thought if you have seen one you have seen them all. That was until I got the chance to try out the Epson LW-600P. This label maker is beyond the normal label maker, not only is it app driven and wirelessly can be operated via your phone, but you can also create bows with it! Okay, maybe that makes me excited,
As if making bows wasn't enough there are iron on label spools that you can utilize with this to individualize all of those hand made gifts. This holiday season you could individualize and create your gifts to wow your family. These also make spectacular gifts for your gadget friendly label fanatic friends and family. I can attest that everyone who has seen it can think of a thousand reasons why they need one. Get organized or help someone who loves organization this holiday season.

I really like to read, as you probably have already noticed and I am working hard to instill the same love of books in my children. It isn't an easy task so this year for Christmas I shall be gifting both Lily and Luke a story that they are the star. The one I selected for this review is for Luke, I picked Dinosaur Land story. With each of these stories you get to put where they are from, their age as well as include up to 3 siblings/cousins/friends names. I am was excited to be able to cater his adventure to include his sister and cousins. The turnaround time for the shipment was super quick as well. I received the book within a couple days of personalizing and ordering.
Overall quality versus cost is super great as well with the books only costing 9.95 right now for several of the adventures this is really a great gift that will be something they cherish for years to come. I am recommending this personally to all of my friends and family. Definitely worth the 10 bucks. If your looking to pick one up head over to KDNovelties.com and order at your leisure. There is still plenty of time before Christmas.

Sleeping soundly is always a goal in our house, but is not always achieved. Lily my five year old has the most difficulty with a full nights sleep, she tends to wake up from night terrors crying out for me. So when given the opportunity to review these I thought why not. The first thing I noticed about the Dream Team Pet Kitty was how very soft it is. The fur is soft and sort of silky so that it is a smooth friend to snuggle tight up against your child. The key thing about this pet is the book that comes with it. The Dream Team Pet works with your child through telling them a story that has your child teach the pet how to get a good night's sleep. The pet earns gold stars throughout the training as does your child.
I like the idea of it helping Lily to sleep better, by giving her comfort. I hope it will also make going to bed easier as she has a goal of earning gold stars. Each of these pets comes with a certificate of training so when Lily has successfully completed her training and is sleeping well with Kitty they will have both earned their certificate.

This holiday season we will be participating in a new tradition of wrapping up books and putting them under the tree as a count down to Christmas tradition. Each day the kids will be unwrapping a book, some will be new others will be from their own library and we will read it as a family. I am a huge fan of reading, the world of books is one of my favorite personal escapes and I want to share that world with my children. So when given the opportunity to include The Great Place and In the Forbidden City in my holiday gift guide I jumped at the chance.
This is the Greatest Place! is a children's book that is all about the Forbidden City and the world of small animals. From the inside cover on every page is filled with beautiful images and positive energy. It feels like an uplifting story told to you by a child about the age of 8 years old. I will definitely add this to the rotation for the beautiful images alone, but the story will cement it as a favorite I think with the kids. It comes across as both informational and fun.
In the Forbidden City is not what I would call a children's book at very youngest I would say it would be for an older child 10 years and up. That being said it is by an far the most informational book with images and description of the Forbidden City that I have ever come across. It contains a very visual history of the emperiors that lived throughout time and how they lived. I think it would be a great way to build a love of history through sharing time spent diving deep into this book magnifying glass in hand getting to know the Forbidden City with your child.
Disclosure: I will be receiving a Curious Creamery to review in order to share my opinion in the near future. I am posting to highlight it's current Kickstarter campaign.
Do you like Ice Cream? How about making your own easy peasy? Okay not really, currently making ice cream is not easy it requires an ice cream machine and quite a bit of time. Or you can kick it old school and get the salt & Ice going until tada ice cream. Either way that is far too much work for the average person. That being said the Curious Creamery claims to have solved this issue. As a I like the concept of this although the review will tell, I can say if your on a diet it would be super great to be able to control the calories and still enjoy the treat. Head over to kickstarter and be the first on your block to be a Curious Creamery fan!
