Disclosure: I received this reel for free in order to conduct a non-biased review. I received no other compensation for the review so the opinion is 100% my own.
One of the other features about this reel I appreciate is the magnetic braking system on this. It allows for easy casting with minimal effort in stopping the line. Prior to this reel I had never used a bait casting reel, that being said this reel has me sold on them. I am pretty sure I am now spoiled by the ease of use.
First things first let's be clear, I like to fish. I am not a huge outdoorsy girl or even anything close to it, but I like to sit on a bank with a book in one hand a reel in the other and do some calm "fishing". I do however not like anything that involves being on a boat in the ocean, I get far too motion sick, so if you want to know how this reel will do in the ocean check out one of the other reviews. Now that we squared away, my type of fishing lets discuss the reel.
From the moment I opened the box I noticed the overall appearance. This is a good-looking reel, it has just enough shine to it to make it look fancy, but not so much that you will be blinded in the sun. The brake on it is a shiny stainless steel and with the accents of red, aesthetically is definitely masculine elegance. It is also extremely light weight at 7.6 oz my hand isn't going to tire from the additional weight so I won't have to sit my pole down often to take breaks. This bait casting reel however isn't just good looking, it's actually incredibly good quality as well.
It boasts 11+1 Noise Free stainless steel ball bearings and I have to say it definitely shows. When you cast off with it, no joke it's smooth. Probably the smoothest I have ever experienced. When just sitting playing with it prior to getting it all rigged up on the pole it was so very smooth to just move the grip you could almost imagine it was fluid. I was very impressed. I am also impressed by the almost complete lack of sound produced. I go fishing for the quiet, with little kids at home you can imagine this time is sacred, so when you can have a reel that doesn't make a ton of noise you can just enjoy the sounds of nature it's definitely a bonus.
To be honest I am still trying to figure out the gears, but I am pretty excited to get to know the reel with time and see which gear works best for my individual preference and fishing style.
My biggest selling point on this reel is the price, my fishing budget isn't quite that of the pros so I won't be investing a few hundred dollars in a Shimano or even a hundred or so in a Lew. I also know my gifting budget is a big fan of the Kastking baitcasting reel for the economical price with the super high quality. I would definitely recommend this for anyone gifting the fisherman in the life a nice reel.
