Disclosure: I received this in exchange for my honest opinion.
Honestly I think there needs to be more of these around because the idea of the school checking my kids temp with the same thermometer that they use on every other kid kinda grosses me out. Yes I am sure they use isopropanol wipes to clean in between, but I also know that not everything is killed by an quick alcohol swab. That being said I also know that many parents send their kids to school sick to keep from having to take off time, yeah it happens I get it, but then super sick kids come and shed their illnesses all over including the nurses office and on the thermometer. Now as to how easy this one is specifically to operate, well honestly it take a bit to get the hang of. It in theory should be simple put batteries in, turn on and aim. Well unfortunately you have to read the instructions which really is not my strong suit, so after messing with it for about ten minutes getting Lo and error as my response I took out the stupid little book. And tada the thing worked when I used it properly. Yes, this in fact did irritate me for a split second then I realized I wasn't an idiot, it was metric and well I mean seriously who in the world uses metric...... (pun intended everyone except the US uses Metric). Any who.... let's go on to the issues I did have that made this not a 5 star item. It requires you to be 4 cm away, which is basically 1.5" inches still super close and you have to make sure the thermo dots line up vertically or you won't get a good reading, well with a sick kid or a baby try to keep that little bugger still for more a split second and it's like the world ended. I haven't quite finished reading the instructions as well there were a lot of words sort of like this review you skipped half of so I'm not sure the minimum amount of pointing time yet, but I did manage to get it to measure both the kids temps. There are promises of a fever alarm, but neither kid would be a willing victim of a hot towel to test it out so we are still waiting for our next illness.. Fingers crossed it's soon so I can update. Oh wait, not! If I never have to use this thing again I will be stoked, but I am glad this is now in my overbearing mother arsenal so while they sleep I can check their temps.
If you are looking to buy a new thermometer I'd recommend this one. I have read in some other reviews they think it might break because it's plastic, well to that I say I shall not juggle mine anytime soon, but if it does break from tossing it across the room... well glad it's not mercury. Happy hunting for the thermometer of your dreams for the illnesses of your nightmares.
